Anna participated in Elton John's AIDS Foundation charity Exhibition / Anna & Enrique
Anna participated in the Elton John AIDS Foundation, a Charity Exhibition, yesterday in Boston's Fleetcenter! There, she played together with Chanda Rubin vs Andre Agassi/Elton John ("battle of the sexes") and later she teamed up with Andre Agassi to play against Chanda Rubin/Elton John! Obviously Anna only played good during the first two points but later, she served 4 Double faults in a row plus many many unforced errors. Mostly her serve didn't even make it to the bottom of the net!!!!!!!!! There were boos from the crowd as well :-(((
Most likely explanation: She wore the heat patch on her sore back again and I guess that she hasn't been practising much lately (remember her Omega-Tapei-appearance, the "Once upon a time in Mexico"-premiere in New York, the pictures on the bench with Enrique,...), she hasn't got a coach right now etc. etc.!

PERSONAL COMMENT: I try to imagine HOW BAD Anna must have played according to the report from "tenn_ace"...! It is depressing to know how good she once was and to compare that with today's state of her game! Will she ever be able to come back to the Pro Tour??? IS SHE STILL AIMING FOR THAT???? As I already posted on August 19, Anna will participate in the World Team Tennis Smash Hits benefit in 2 days. This event will take place in Boston's Fleetcenter, 7:30pm!
Ranking News:
As of September 22, Anna's downfall didn't go on in
fact! In Singles she lost 1 additional positions
and is now ranked 222th in the world! In
Doubles she even climbed up the Rankings (+1
position) - she's ranked 139th in Doubles right now. In the "Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings
Anna's name appears only in the "Team"-competition.
There, she's ranked 55th together with Chanda Rubin
and unchanged 151 points (no position change)!

Dramatic Ranking News / Anna was in Tapei City / Anna & Enrique in Santa Monica
As of September 15, Anna's downfall goes on - in a dramatic way! In Singles she dropped 74 positions and is now ranked 221th in the world (last year's Shanghai Singles Final is the explanation)! In Doubles almost the same: 48 positions lost and Anna's ranked 139th in Doubles right now. Why? She WON Shanghai's Doubles competition last year!!! In the "Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings Anna's name appears only in the "Team"-competition. There, she's ranked 55th together with Chanda Rubin and unchanged 151 points (-1 position)!

just a few days ago, Anna and Enrique were sitting
on a bench in Santa Monica (Los Angeles) and, well,
Enrique grabbed Anna's butt and she was finally
revealing that she definitely HAS a tattoo on her

Ranking News / new Poll / Anna & Enrique in New York / Anna in Netherlands
As of September 8, 2003, Anna is ranked 147th in Singles (-1 position)! In Doubles the downfall is more dramatic because last year she was quite successful at the US Open with Martina Hingis - now she's ranked 91th in Doubles!!!! In the "Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings Anna's name doesn't appear in the Singles Top100 and in Doubles she's ranked 54th (-1 position) with Chanda Rubin and unchanged 151 points!

Anna & Enrique in New York: I saw it on RTL "Exclusiv"
yesterday evening (german TV channel, celebrity show):
Anna and Enrique made an appearance at the "Once
upon a time in Mexico"-premiere in New York last weekend! Anna looked
happy and the reason why they showed these few
pictures was Enrique's removed mole in his face.

PERSONAL COMMENT: I don't know why but somehow I
have the impression that Anna isn't really focused
on Tennis anymore. All these offcourt-appearances
over the last few weeks plus what's on her offcourt
calendar for the rest of the year...! Is THIS really
a serious rehabilitation program??? What do you mean??

TV debut big success???: According to Anna's
official website Anna's TV debut as entertaining
reporter was a big success and viewer's reactions
were very very positive... (I read different stories...)!
However - this is what Gordon Beck (SVP Sports
Programming & Production at USA network) said: "Of
course we hope that Anna is able to return to tennis
competition soon, but otherwise we would love to
have her working with us again."

That's it for 2003 :-(((((( / New York 2003-pics / "VH-1 All access"
Anna told tennisreporters.net that she won't play again in 2003 but generally she wants to come back. She is hoping that her injured back will heal...! She also said that BACK SURGERY is an option but she doesn't want that yet because it might sideline her for at least 8 months. Anna felt quite good with her back before Birmingham, UK (June) but then the pain reoccured and it even started to negatively affect other parts of her body.
Anna acted as "Celebrity reporter" for USA Network for 3 days but she didn't take the option for the 2nd week because she feld uncomfortable interviewing her fellow players (very good sign in my opinion)!
Anna wanted to go to the MTV VMA's on Thursday evening but she was too busy because of her new role as TV reporter. full report
PERSONAL COMMENT: Well, I fear that Anna will retire if her back continues to prevent her from running and just causing pain. It all depends on 2004 I guess. I am very very sad because I will not be able to see her LIVE again this 2003 (Filderstadt, Leipzig) - I miss you Anna!

"VH-1 All access": At approx. 7:20pm CET
tonight they showed on "VH-1 All access" (strange:
On MTV Europe Channel?!?!?) a short episode of what
you could call "Anna and her popular men"!
Journalists, columnists and also Dave Meyers (director
of Enrique's "Escape"-video) talked about her
relationships, the rumors around Sergej Fedorov, the
split, the wedding rumors, Pavel Bure and most of
all they talked about Anna's relationship with
Enrique Iglesias. Dave Meyers said that Anna really
kind of fell in love with Enrique at the "Escape"-videoshoot!
Unfortunately I only managed to record 2 minutes of this roughly 3-4 minutes report! Should I put it into the Videostore???
PERSONAL COMMENT: It still makes me sad to hear that other people think that Tennis doesn't mean very much to her :-(((( They ONLY talked about her relationships and the rumors around them. By the way: Tomorrow, on September 3, 1996, it is exactly 6 years ago since I first saw Anna - on TV (US Open 4th Round vs Steffi Graf)!
