PERSONAL COMMENT: Okay, the march-date isn't new and I knew that this means that she won't compete in the year's first Grand Slam but it is frustrating! As far as I know this is the first time that Anna doesn't play the Australian Open - despite her long injury layoffs in recent years she always played in Melbourne! Not in 2004 :-(((((

PERSONAL COMMENT: Honestly, I do not know why she was there! Did she receive an award?? No, she didn't! So why was she there?? Maybe some upcoming events here in Europe (or even Germany :-))) during the next few days? Or did she already come to Europe because of her upcoming exhibition Leon (Spain) on December 7 and the event in Amsterdam 4 days later? I don't know!

they showed Anna on the red carpet at the Bambi
Media Awards in Hamburg yesterday. A journalist
asked Anna if she lost weight! Anna, surprised,
replied with a laugh: "Oh really? Have I ever looked
fat before?" Her "explanation":

The 2003 WTA season is over but official Rankings still continue to vary. As of November 24, Anna is ranked 309th in Singles - again she lost 1 position :-(((! In Doubles Anna maintained ranked the 175th Doubles Player in the world! Points haven't changed!

In today's press conference in Mumbai (India) Anna told the press that she intends to return to competitive tennis by March next year. Quote: "I'm hoping to be fully fit by March next year."
(PERSONAL COMMENT: This means that I do not have to hope to see her in Antwerp or Paris Indoors next year :-((( )!

Anna is in India since Tuesday morning (November 11)! Right from her arrival it was hectic with lots of photographers at the airport (Delhi) etc.! She went to Amby Valley (she has been chosen brand ambassador for the Amby Valley Project in Sahara Lake City near Mumbai) where she will stay until November 14. What is Anna doing there???
Subroto Roy (Sahara chief) invited Anna to come to India some time ago and she's there to relax and recuperate from her chronic back injury. Anna's schedule in India includes golf, Ayurvedic massages and Yoga sessions.
On November 14 Anna will hold a press conference at the JW Marriott Hotel in Mumbai and she'll fly out of India the same evening. More: timesofindia | rediff.com
not Gold Exempt?:
It looks as if Anna won't be on the "Gold
Exempt"-list 2004! What would this mean? If you are
on that list you can get unlimited wildcards! Anna
would definitely need this - just take a look to the
left to see her current Singles Rankin...! If she
doesn't appear on that list she can only get 3
Wildcards next year. But this sounds not very likely
to me because EVERY tournament director wants Anna
to play their tournaments.
Anyway, Anna has a "Injury Protected Ranking" of
aroung 70 because she hasn't been playing on the WTA
Tour for more than 6 months!

Thanx to Sofie I got this news (hope that this is
NOT true) - Anna obviously said after her match in
Pattaya vs Tanasugarn that she's not able to play in
Australia (Sydney, AUSTRALIAN OPEN!!!!) 2004 due to
her back injury...! Hopefully this turns out to be
wrong "news"!
Ranking News: As of November 10, Anna is
ranked 305th in Singles (-3 positions) and 176th in
Doubles - she even improved her Ranking by 5
positions! The "Porsche Race to the
Championships"-Ranking isn't important anymore
because the Championships already have taken place

Anna beats Tanasugarn, Tennis still No.1 / Anna goes to India
Anna beat Tamarine Tanasugarn in Pattaya today :-))) 2-6,6-4,10-8 the score. The 3rd set was a Champion Tiebreak! That's great news :-))) According to "Al" (member of wtaworld.com-boards) Anna's serve was okay and her groundstrokes were great (big pace!
And these are the greatest statements from Anna this year (for me at least): "I still love tennis and want to play...My number one priority is Tennis. That's what I want to do, far above anything else."

the AIDS virus etc) in Pattaya. According to BILD,
Anna promised: "If you need me, I'll be there"! At
the end of the report BILD starts to speculate. When
asked if she thinks about becoming a mother herself,
Anna reportedly just smiled...! Plus: According to
BILD, Enrique was interviewed by "Bunte" (german
weekly magazine about celebs), quote: "I am very

Anna will be in Pattaya (Thailand) between November 6 and 9 and will participate in the Volvo Women's Open which are held at the Dusit Resort from November 1-9, 2003!
Anna will be on the court on November 8 and 9!
On Saturday (November 8) Anna will appear on court before the Doubles Final with Tamarine Tanasugarn and the Volvo Young Star Tennis Team.
On Sunday (November 9) Anna will play a best of 3 sets exhibition match vs Tamarine Tanasugarn. This match will take place after the Singles Final.

These are most likely the best quotes (at least this year) from Anna - in a recent Phone Interview with Oregon Live she said THIS: "I'm not retiring. Right now, I have more time to do other things until my back fully recovers. They (London's Evening Standard) sensationalized that and the headline said 'Anna's retiring,' but that's not true. I'm just trying to get fully recovered."
