Anna plays vs Iva Majoli in the 1st Round at Sarasota (Full Singles Main Draw). The match isn't scheduled for today so I assume that she will play tomorrow - on April 1 (hopefully it doesn't become an "April Fool's" game)! Official tournament website

Ranking News: No changes in Singles - Anna
remains the 66th ranked Singles player in the world
with unchanged points (she lost in last year's
Nasdaq-100 Open in the 1st Round as well)! In
Doubles Anna lost 6 positions and is now ranked 29th
with 1079 points! Why? Last year she played with
Martina Hingis and both won 2 games before Martina
withdrew due to an injury! Sidenote: Just imagine
- Martina Navratilova (she is older than Anna's
mother!!!) is currently ranked 23th in Doubles!!!!
In the "Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings
Anna is still out of the Singles Top 100 and in
Doubles she also lost 4 positions - 26th ranked with
Chanda Rubin and unchanged 151 points!

Sarasota-Draw on Sunday, report
The Main Draw for the Sarasota Clay Court Classic (March 31 - April 6, 2003) will be published on sunday evening! I live in Germany which means that this means early monday morning (Florida-time +6 hours)!
According to this report Anna helps boost ticket sales in Sarasota! Not really surprising I think :-)

Anna will be playing her next tournament in Sarasota (March 31 - April 6, 2003) which is a Tier IV-tournament! Anna has never played there before and she has been given a Wildcard entry!

What a sad tournament for Anna :-((( After her defeat in Singles vs Safina, Anna suffered another loss - this time in Doubles with Elena Dementieva (their first ever match as a Doubles Team)! Both lost vs Meilen Tu/Sonya Jeyaseelan 5:7,4:6!
So, The Nasdaq-100 Open are definitely over for Anna right now :-(((( I am sad about the outcome, what else?

No real surprise either - Adidas spokesman Oliver Brueggen gave sport1.de an interview where he clearly stated that Anna would be more "worth" in the advertising world if she would win at Wimbledon! More quotes (rough translation by me):

Out again in Round 1 / Doubles with Dementieva
Well, do you remember Anna's losing streak at her comeback after her BIG injury in 2001 (lost in 1st Round at Leipzig, Filderstadt, Moscow and Zurich in a row)???
Or do you remember last year when Anna lost in 4 1st Round-matches in a row (Indian Wells, Miami, Amelia Island, Charleston)???
Anna lost AGAIN - 1:6,4:6! Honestly, I am not very surprised :-((((
How the match proceeded: Safina quickly leaded 3:0, Anna one her only game in Set 1 after that and the first set was gone. In set 2 Anna took the early lead to 3:0 and it seemed as if a third set would be the decisive one! But Safina came back and even took the lead 4:3! After that Anna won just one more game and then Safina won the match!
Some disappointing stats: Anna had a weaker serve than Safina and she made just 5 Winners compared to 8 Double Faults. Oh Harold, your conviction ("better than vs Henin in Australia") didn't pay off :-((((((((((((
What did Safina say afterwards? "I don't want to talk about Anna. I mean, we are friends."

Anna vs Safina in Round 1 / KB-History / Ranking News
The Main Singles Draw for the Nasdaq-100 Open is released - Anna faces her russian compatriot Dinara Safina in the opening round. Both have never played against each other before! I assume that the match takes place most likely on thursday's Night Session - she doesn't play today (Wednesday-schedule)! Does anybody know it more exactly?
Possible next round opponents for Anna:
Rd2: Ai Sugiyama (seeded 17th) she has a BYE in Round 1
Rd3: Anastasia Myskina (seeded 11th)

PERSONAL
COMMENT: This is going to be a VERY tough first
round match, especially because Anna is playing in
her hometown plus vs a young russian player plus
this is her first match since January 15, 2003!!!
However - if Anna loses or not probably won't be THE
main issue in the press conference afterwards as it
should be! But I trust in Anna that she doesn't say
anything concerning Sergei's statements about their
relationship (marriage/divorce)!

Singles this week - a little surprise to me! She's
now ranked 66th with unchanged 536 points. In
Doubles Anna lost again one position - 23th with
unchanged 1168 points. In the "Porsche Race to the
Championships"-Rankings Anna is still out of the
Singles Top 100 but at least she's still ranked 22th
in Doubles with Chanda Rubin (both lost one spot)
with unchanged 151 points!

SOLOMON TALKS ABOUT ANNA / Miami on TV / exhibition-news / News for Downloads-Section / Anna vows revenge on Sergei
Great - At the Miami-exhibition on February 26, 2003 Harold Solomon talked with tennisreporters.net about Anna! He says that Anna is ready to come back to the Tour next week in Miami (Nasdaq 100 Open). Furthermore he says that Anna just needs match practise after she just played 3 Singles matches since October 2002 (Moscow)! He is convinced that Anna will be better than in her match vs Henin-Hardenne at the Australian Open (Anna lost 0-6,1-6) which is great to her! Anna works with in the gym, she's boxing and running but he also says that "she has to be really careful with her back" which makes me sad! Isn't her back injury fully healed yet?!?!?! Hopefully not!

Canadian Press (Vancouver newspaper) published an
article, based on a slovak daily, which states that
Anna might lose endorsement money because there was
a secrecy agreement in her contracts that she must
not become attached to any man!?!?!?! Furthermore
Anna is quoted: "This revelation may deprive
me of some contracts. There is a clause in them that
I must not become attached to any man."

Anna practises with Ashley / AK&MH-Tribute
According to "Mark36" (official member of wtaworld.com-Board) Anna practised with Ashley Harkleroad at Crandon Park on Stadium Court (where the Nasday 100 Open take place)! First of all, Anna did some jump roping and stretching, afterwards both were played points and Anna was moving very well :-))) Whenever Anna approached the net she was successful :-) Harold Solomon was there as well, picking up balls for Anna and saying "Okay let's go, Okay C'mon, Okay. Alright" etc (I heard him saying that back in Strasbourg on May 20-21, 2002)! Furthermore, Anna did wear sunscreen and zinc oxide around her eyes, nose and ears! Remember the 2002 US summer tournaments (Stanford, San Diego,...)??? LOVELY!

Well, I experienced it the first time I installed the PHP-based Messageboard on annaforever.de but it got even worse this time :-((

I know that Anna's official Messageboard is THE ultimate place for posting news, pics and sharing viewpoints but at least I hoped that from time to time A FEW guys would post on MY messageboard, too!

Obviously Sergei Fedorov revealed that he and Anna were married!!!! This is what he reportedly said to Hockey News (US magazine)! Anna never wanted the public to know that!
PERSONAL COMMENT: Remember
the
reports from July 24, 2001 (just ONE example but
a BIG one)??? It was reported that Anna, while she
was sidelined with her foot surgery, secretly
married Sergei in Moscow. A few days later Anna
denied these rumours.
Whatever is true (married, divorced, Single or
whatever) - this is Anna's privacy but as long as
she is popular this kind of stuff will never
stop...poor Anna!

A new week and once again a scary look at the
Rankings - Anna lost 9 positions again - now she's
ranked 67th in Singles (536 points)! It is logical
because last year she reached the semis in Acapulco!
In Doubles she's still ranked 22th with unchanged
1168 points (she didn't played Doubles from
Australian Open until the Nasdaq 100 Open in the end
of march 2002)!

:-((( This is already the 2nd week! Anna gained 48
points so far in 2003 but the lowest ranked players
