WTT to come - WTA-comeback doubtful / WTA-desert Germany
One thing is for sure - Anna will test her body at the upcoming WTT matches in July! I think these matches will show us if we can still hope for a WTA comeback in the future! That's what Anna said in Hamilton 13 days ago: "Every time that I see I'm getting better, it gets worse," said Kournikova. "I don't want to push it to the limit where I'm not going to be able to move ... I'm frustrated because I miss [tennis]." Let's pray that her back injury can take the pressure! WTT report

WTA-desert Germany: I don't know if it's really for sure but I heard that this year's German Open in Berlin (Tier I-tournament!!!) was the last time this tournament took place in Germany's capital. Obviously they sold the tournament to an Arabian country...! WTA moves to the Middle East and Asia more and more...!
This is SO frustrating for me because chances decrease drastically that Anna will be playing in Germany ever again. No more Hannover (until 2000), Hamburg (until 2002), Leipzig (until 2003) and now Berlin (until 2004???).
FILDERSTADT AS THE ONLY WTA-TOURNAMENT INSIDE GERMANY??? This makes me very very sad but what can I do?

Reading this quote from Anna (at the WTT Conference Call from June 17th) it doesn't sound very promising for a WTA Return...! Anyway, Anna's main goal is still to get healthy again ("My goal is to become healthy") and she's still training very often ("I'm still playing everyday and working out everyday") but she doesn't want back surgery...! Quote: "Back surgery is very serious and very difficult, so taking medication and doing what my doctors tell me right now is what I’m going to stick with."

PERSONAL COMMENT: I am no back expert, no doctor at all, and I think that Anna's doctors know what they advise her but well, 1 year of rehab and still not a fully healed back!?!?!? What kind of serious chronic injury is that??! What's left for me to say the 1000000th time that I hope that I will see Anna play a WTA Tournament again in the future! She still loves being on the court!

BILD about WTT comeback: Well, german BILD also talks about Anna's planned comeback to competitive Tennis and therefore her WTT appearances in July! But BILD states that Anna already considered to retire before she realized how much she misses the game! The Report

Great News - Anna will play in the first four of the Kansas City Explorer's 14 matches in this year's World Team Tennis season - perhaps in SINGLES!!!!! Anna said in a phone conference on thursday: "It's up to the coach (if she plays Singles) but I'm getting ready to play Singles."

PERSONAL COMMENT: That's great to hear. Hopefully she can come back to the Pro Tour soon!

Anna won in Hamilton :-)
Great great news - first of all, Anna did play her exhibition match in Hamilton and she also won - 6:4,7:5 vs Gigi Fernandez! She also did play Doubles with Sharon Fichman but I don't know the result yet! Anna's comment is SOOOO great I think: "I'm getting my game back to become competitive again." Anna is unsure about Pro comeback / Anna practising again - BILD version / RG02-videos
Anna is in Hamilton and will play the exhibition matches on June 12th - good! But in an interview she said this: "My back is not doing very well. I'm just trying to stay active and be on the court as much as I can...I am healthy enough to play four times a week, two hours a day, but to come back at a professional level and have to train six hours a day, that's where the problem starts."

PERSONAL COMMENT: Well, almost 1 year time to recover and still problems...! Will her back ever heal 100%??? I think that's more than doubtful. What can I say? I was so happy to see the practise pictures yesterday, was hoping that she returns soon. Well, I should have thought about it more I guess. The bottom line is that we can do nothing more than hope - just like the last months!

PERSONAL COMMENT: We all should be kind of happy to see her practising again. I hope that's a good sign. I critizised her as well during the past few months when she was just touring with Enrique all over the world, the cancelled Houston exhibition, the Omega events in St.Moritz, Singapore, Dubai and Plymouth etc! But after all - I hope she's now close to come back to the Pro Tour!

Anna practising again - on her 23rd Birthday
ANNA PRACTISES AGAIN - and even on her birthday!!!!!!!The Sun has the picture proof and I hope that she is training for a come back since many months! Unfortunately we don't hear anything about her comeback actions! Last time we saw her on court was in Leon in December 2003 (!!!) and since then, there was only the cancelled Houston exhibition on April 8 but beside that: Just Offcourt appearances, endorsement stuff and other related things! Anna about comeback / Happy Birthday gift
Anna did an interview with Five Live when she was in Plymouth for the start of the Transat Race! She has been asked many questions and also talked about her planned comeback :-))) Basically no REAL news, just the "comeback when 100% healthy"-statements but at least it really seems that she's still loving tennis and wants to come back :-)))
Plus: She didn't answer any Enrique-/pregnancy-questions and also said that she would like to come to Wimbledon this year - to watch! Hear the Interview

little birthday gift / Transat race start in Plymouth / ESPN Page2 story
In a few days Anna turns 23 and now that I have more spare time again I decided to create a little Flash movie. Basically it will feature a slide show of black and white pictures of Anna's Tennis career! It is out of my point of view - victories I won't forget and highly memorable moments when I saw her in real life (first time Filderstadt 2000, last time Strassbourg 2002)!
Hopefully you like it and I hope even more that in a few years more Tennis pictures can be added because Anna decided to continue her Pro Tennis Career :-)))
