Sea Island-Challenger next
It still seems that Anna plans to return to competitive Tennis next week at Sea Island, The Cloister Cup ($25K-Challenger). At the updated Main Draw Entry List Anna is now seeded 2nd behind Amy Frazier.
Well, I guess that Anna, IF she really plans to play again next week, decided to play the $25K-Challenger instead of Berlin's Tier I-Event just because of one main reason: Match practise! It is simply more realistic that she wins a few matches at a small tournament like this $25K-Challenger than at a Tier I-Tournament! In a few days we will know!

Sea Island-Challenger? / Road-to-Paris / Ranking News / Spice Girls Tribute - Part 1
According to these 2 reports (savannahnow.com | thebrunswicknews.com) Anna will be playing at The Cloister Cup at Sea Island, GA, USA (May 5-11, 2003) as "part of her rehabilitation"...!
WHY A
$25K-CHALLENGER AND NOT BERLIN???? Well, first of
all it is absolutely unsure (at least for me) IF she
will really play in Sea Island next week! But IF she
will: It is "easier" because 1) she doesn't have to
fly to Germany and 2) her opponents at a Challenger
are weaker than at a Tier I-tournament like Berlin!
Whatever will happen - I will continue to support
you, Anna!
Road-to-Paris: Anna's possible way of
preparation for the 2nd Grand Slam in Paris might be:
May 5-11: Sea Island, GA, USA
- The Cloister Cup ($25.000-Challenger)
updated Main Draw Entry List
May 12-18: Charlottesville,
VA, USA - Body Tinsley USTA Pro Tennis Ch'Ships
($25.000-Challenger)
May 19-25: Strasbourg, FRA
- Internationaux de Strasbourg (Tier III)
Ranking News: Absolutely no Changes - Anna
remains ranked 67th in Singles (unchanged points)
and 28th in Doubles (unchanged points)! It's the
same for the "Porsche Race to the
Championships"-Rankings: Anna is still ranked
outside the Top100 in Singles and 32th (with Chanda
Rubin) in Doubles with unchanged 151 points!

That's it for Berlin - the official Withdrawal is reality :-(((( read more
As far as I know Anna is still committed to play Rome and a Challenger but who knows if she will be able to return to competitive Tennis just 1 week later...! Roland Garros without Anna like in 2001???

TEAR IN LEFT ABDUCTOR :-(((( / Ranking News / Anna beaten by Elena :-((
That's it for Berlin - no official Withdrawal yet but just read the "Exclusive Status Report" on Anna's official Website...: "tear in her left abductor muscle! "She expects to resume training within 10 days" - This is just SOOO sad :-((((
Anna has no luck on the court, that's obvious! She's injury-prone and well, what more can I say? I fear that I will never see her play in german's capital!
Hopefully I will see her playing LIVE this year again!
Ranking News: No changes in Singles (67th
ranked, unchanged points) but a slim improvement in
Doubles, plus 2 positions (28th ranked)! In the
"Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings Anna
remains ranked outside the Singles Top 100 but in
Doubles she lost 1 additional position - ranked 32th
with Chanda Rubin and unchanged 151 points!

Anna beaten by Elena :-((: Well, in fact
oncourt news but not strictly related to Anna...!
Elena Dementieva won her first WTA Singles Title in
Amelia Island just 2 days ago...in her 5th Singles
Final! Anna's next WTA Singles Final would also be
her fifth - maybe a good sign...!
HOPEFULLY Anna will be in another WTA Singles Final
very very soon but right now it doesn't seem that
this is going to happen very soon :-((((

NO BERLIN but $25.000-Challenger??? / Eastbourne / New Poll / ANNA's COSMETIC / Update Status news
This question is my conclusion after reading that article! According to this article Anna's current thigh injury hasn't healed in time to start her comeback at the Dothan-Challenger ($75.000 Prize money) next week! BUT: On the one hand playing Berlin (Tier I) "may yet prove too strong" for Anna as stated by this article but on the other hand she is obviously still committed to play another $25.000-Challenger at Peach State (couldn't find any more infos about it as of now, sorry)!
PERSONAL COMMENT: Honestly, after Anna retired due to injury in Charleston I almost immediately lost all my hopes for Berlin :-((((! Her plan will be to get claycourt match practise before the French Open in the end of May because THIS is a prestigious Grand Slam and if she's healthy she has to play there!
Eastbourne: Anna confirmed to play in
Eastbourne (read
more)! Hopefully she's healthy by then...
New Poll: What do you think having Anna's
latest injury in mind??? LET ME KNOW! Take a look at
the outcome of the last poll as well:
Unfortunately she IS injured again and due to that injury she lost in another 1st Round :-(((( Only disappointing...
ANNA's COSMETIC: Do you remember a report
from last year stating that Anna signed a contract
with a cosmetics company??? Well, it seems that a)
this was true and b) the products are already
available. The list of items: eau de parfum, parfum
deo spray, Parfum shower gel, Parfum Body Lotion,
After Shave etc.! Everything for women and men!
Click on the pic below to see ALL cosmetics by
Anna...
PERSONAL COMMENT: I was really hoping that it was
just a bad joke - but as you see above the
merchandising machinery is still rolling and rolling
and rolling :-((((((((((((
Update Status news: It's getting slightly
better - working on laptop and normal PC right now
but still some software errors and other stuff
affects my work on annaforever.de
I am working on that and keep you updated!

Challenger-withdrawal
Once again no real surprise because the sad news just don't seem to stop :-(((( According to that renewed Entry-List for the Challenger Tournament in Dothan (April 21-27, 2003) Anna has withdrawn...!
Well, no real surprise but extremely sad for me (also: ONCE AGAIN) because the German Open in Berlin coming nearer! I still hope that she can play but chances are definitely decreasing :-(((((

Anna in Berlin 2003??? / Ranking News / Update Status
No surprise that Anna has been offered a Wildcard into the Tier I-tournament but will she REALLY be there in 4 weeks??? According to bild.de (Sports Section) Anna has been given a Wildcard but right now Anna is injured (withdrew from Amelia Island this week) and who knows if she will be able to compete in a Tier I-event in less than a month...! official Berlin-website
Ranking News: Anna retired due to injury in
Charleston - so: As of April 14, she remains ranked
67th in Singles (unchanged points) and 30th in
Doubles (unchanged points)! In the "Porsche Race to
the Championships"-Rankings Anna still doesn't
appear in the Singles Top 100 and in Doubles she
also lost 5 more spots - 31th ranked with Chanda
Rubin and unchanged 151 points :-((((

No Amelia Island
Due to her latest injury Anna doesn't play the Tournament in Amelia Island (Bausch & Lomb Championships), starting on April 14! This is SOOOO sad!
PERSONAL COMMENT: I still hope that her current thigh injury isn't so serious that she is forced to cancel the tournament in Berlin and Strasbourg - THERE i wish to see her LIVE again. Come back HEALTHY and as soon as possible, sweet Anna!

Anna sidelined due to left adductor strain
Is 2003 going to overshadow 2002 concerning INJURIES?!?!?! Sad but true - it looks like that! Yesterday, at 4-4 in set 1: "...I felt a sharp pain in my leg!...At the 4-all game, I went wide for a ball and felt something in my leg." After the 1st set Anna received treatment and came back with her upper thigh wrapped in a bandage! SHE SHOULD HAVE RETIRED EARLIER because: "At 5-4 I got to the point where I had difficulty moving"! Anna, why did you continue to play?!?!?!?! 2 games later, at 1-1 in set 2, she finally retired...

PERSONAL
COMMENT: This is just SO SAD! How long will THIS
injury take to heal??? Doesn't this look similar to
the injury she suffered at Rome 2002 in her 3rd
Round match vs Ruano-Pascual??? God, this is (once
again) NOT FAIR!!!!
I am getting tired of saying this again and again
but: ANNA, PLEASE COME BACK AND GOD, SHE DESERVES
AT LEAST A BIT LUCK!!!!
What do you think? Discuss it in the AKFS Messageboard

Anna sidelined due to injury again / THE END IS NEAR???
Hard to find words for that - "Kournikova out with injury" - that's what a friend of mine mailed me when I asked him for the result of Anna vs Martinez...! Further information from him: The injury concerns the muscle in her right leg, I assume the thigh (once again)!
As of now I don't know HOW SERIOUS this injury is but one thing I know: I fear that the end is near...
THE END
IS NEAR???: Take a look in the current AKFS Poll,
option 5: "She will suffer another injury setback
soon" - I knew that it was possible but I didn't
really think it would happen NOW again...! She just
played 5 tournaments this year and Anna was already
injured TWICE (back injury from Aussie Open until
Miami end of march)! Is this fair??? NO, IT ISN'T! I
don't get it: After her comeback-match vs Safina in
Miami (March 20) she said that she's "physically in
great shape" afterwards! NOW THIS!!!! What happened???
Questions:
- What is Anna thinking right now: "Does this make
any sense anymore?"
- How serious is this latest injury?
- Which tournaments (where she already committed to
play) are affected? Roland Garros perhaps?
What do you think? Discuss it in the AKFS Messageboard

Anna vs Martinez postponed again / Pics
Anna's match had to be suspended yesterday due to rain - intially it was schedule to start today as 2nd match on Stadium court but now "because of the inclement weather, the day session is tentatively scheduled to start at 12:00pm" (taken from official tournament website)! So...:
Stadium court - start 12:00am local (6:00pm CET)
Garbin vs Henin-Hardenne
Kournikova vs Martinez (Anna leads 2-0)
I assume that Anna's match resumes at approx. 1:30-2:00pm local (7:30-8:00pm CET)! GREAT that Anna is leading and hopefully it doesn't rain again!
Furthermore, IF ANNA WINS she has to play her 2nd Round match TODAY as well (do you know when this happened before???), see today's schedule:
Club Court - start 12:00am local (6:00pm CET)
Matevzic vs Dokic
Dementieva vs Majoli
Granville vs Coetzer
Myskina vs Pierce
Garbin vs winner of Kournikova/Martinez
I think that even if Anna wins (hopefully...) she will have ENOUGH rest before her 2nd Round match - it should be 2,3 hours! Hopefully she doesn't get injured and manages to beat Martinez! GO ANNA

Anna vs Martinez tomorrow / outfit: new colors
Anna vs Martinez (seeded 15th) is scheduled for today - look:
Stadium court - start 10:00am local (4:00pm CET)
Zvonareva vs Schnyder
Majoli vs Lee-Waters
Davenport vs Bedanova
Kournikova vs Martinez
I assume that Anna's match starts at approx. 2:30-4:00pm local (8:30-10:00pm CET)! Pretty hard to predict the duration of the previous matches.
outfit: new colors: Seems like Anna will be
wearing a new-colored outfit for the upcoming
european clay court season which starts in about 3
weeks!

Anna vs Martinez tomorrow / No Doubles / Ranking News / Anna&Enrique invited by Jon Bon Jovi
The schedule for today is out and Anna isn't scheduled to play vs Martinez today. So most likely she will play tomorrow her 1st Round match vs Conchita Martinez!
No Doubles: Once again - Anna doesn't play
Doubles in Charleston this week. Why??? Does she
fear that she might get injured again by playing
more??? She's currently ranked 30th in Doubles :-((( She deserves better
Ranking News: Once again a sad "job" to do -
Anna's Singles as well as Doubles Ranking got worse
once again - 1 spot lost in Singles (67th with
unchanged points) and 1 spot down in Doubles as well
(30th with unchanged points)! All I can say: Time to
win again, Anna!
In the "Porsche Race to the Championships"-Rankings
Anna still doesn't appear in the Singles Top100 but
in Doubles she remains ranked 26th together with
Chanda Rubin and unchanged 151 points!

Anna&Enrique invited by Jon Bon Jovi: US
Weekly reports Anna and Enrique recently were
invited by Jon Bon Jovi to hang out backstage at his
show at Fort Lauderdale! According to the source "they didn't
leave each other's side for a minute" and Enrique
even "got Anna anything she wanted. It's obvious he
cares a lot for her."
Well, might be true because I heard that before! Are both, or just Enrique and/or Anna, "friends" of Jon Bon Jovi?!?!?! Does somebody know?

Anna vs Martinez / Anna&Enrique-webvideo / RTL 4 votes / NY Post about tattoo / Anna & Enrique were in Toronto???
Just like last year in Charleston (Family Circle Cup) Anna faces Conchita Martinez in the 1st Round. Last year Anna lost in 2 sets and this defeat was her 3rd 1st Round-defeat in a row (she lost in Amelia Island the following week in the 1st Round as well - vs Paola Suarez)! Full Main Draw
Well, having played just 2 matches since her latest injury-timeout it is nearly impossible to predict anything. All I know is that this is going to be a very tough match for Anna but anything is possible - a 2-set-defeat as well as a 2-set-victory!
Anna's Head-to-Head Results vs Martinez:
| Date | Location | Round | Result | Surface |
| 09.03.98 | Indian Wells | 3rd | 3:6,4:6 | Hardcourt |
| 24.03.98 | Key Biscayne | 4th | 6:3,6:0 | Hardcourt |
| 16.05.98 | Berlin | SF | 0:6,1:6 | Clay |
| 21.08.98 | Montreal | 3rd | 0:6,3:6 | Hardcourt |
| 16.11.00 | New York | QF | 6:4,6:0 | Carpet |
| 16.04.02 | Charleston | 1st | 6:7,1:6 | Clay |
| 01.08.02 | San Diego | 3rd | 1:6,6:2,6:1 | Hardcourt |
It doesn't look very promising! Anna has never won a single set vs Conchita on Clay :-(((( Hopefully this time she wins two :-)

Anna & Enrique were in Toronto??: E! Online's
Ted Casablanca reports Anna and Enrique were spotted dining together at Avenue in
the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. He wore a
dark blue dress shirt and silver jewelry, Anna
reportedly was "her usual va-va-voom self"
(whatever this should mea). A bodyguard hung
out nearby! Enrique entertained Anna with an
animated story and she happily listened to every

Anna to play Challenger?!?! - discuss / Anna to play WTT / Enrique's brother about Enrique & Anna!?!?!
Anna appears on the Main Draw of a Challenger Tournament, the "Women's USTA $75K Challenger" in Dothan (Alabama, USA). This is an Tier VI-event (Anna has never played a Tier V-event before!!!!) and the winner gets 65 points plus quality points. Only 5 players including Anna on top of the Main Draw appear on that list: Anna, Meilen Tu, Asa Svensson, Dally Randriantefy and Marissa Irving! This Challenger takes place from April 21-27, 2003 (a WTA-tournament-free week)!
Main Draw (pdf) | DISCUSS in the AKFS Messageboard (Oncourt-Anna > "Is going back to Challengers the right way???"-Thread)
Well, what do YOU think of this IF it turns out to be true!?!?! Maybe it is kind of a good decision but what if she loses there in the 1st Round as well?!?! Think about the press - they would never ever again talk about Anna as a serious tennis player I guess! I really don't know what to think about that...
Anna to play WTT: Anna was the top player selected in the World
Team Tennis draft on Wednesday, by the Kansas City
Explorers. This season runs from July 7-27, 2003
with the finals on August 23.

Remember 2001??? She was picked to play with St.Louis but Anna had this HUGE foot injury which required surgery and therefore she couldn't play :-( Hopefully this time :-)

recently talked about Anna & Enrique. He reportedly
said that "they're doing very well"...

Anna: "It's a great match to build on" / on her left leg...
Well, Anna lost 4:6,6:4,4:6 vs Majoli in Sarasota's 1st Round match which took 1 hour 45 minutes BUT: According to a few articles she was fighting, she showed her commitment, came back from 0-5 in the 1st set to 4-5 etc! What did Anna say after the very close match which could have gone either way???: "It's a great match to build on" - I think I would have the same opinion if I'd have seen it! "It's a huge step forward"...! More Quotes from Anna after this latest match | related articles
on her left leg...: I found this
article on
bild.t-online.de which deals about a
blue mark on
the inside of Anna's left thigh (Pic)!
Well, BILD gives great "explanations":
- acrobatical love games
- house work
- bad luck during fitness training
Plus: Thanx BILD, this hurts: "Fast exit. So far no news"....

Anna lost in close 3 sets...
Anna LOST - this is the fact! But: I am not SO disappointed as I thought I would be! Anna lost in 3 sets - 4:6,6:4,4:6! As far as I am informed Anna was already 0:5 behind in the first set - but she fought back! Of course it is disappointing - just 1 Singles victory in 2003 (4 defeats) and it is already April 2nd :-(((((((((((((((((

Anna vs Majoli at 7pm
Anna's first round match vs Iva Majoli is scheduled for TODAY - not before 7 pm local - Sarasota's Tuesday-schedule! Look:
Stadium - start not before 7pm local
Kournikova vs Majoli
I assume that the 3 Singles match (start 11:00am local) won't take longer than 8 hours so I think that Anna's match will definitely start at 7:00 pm local (1:00am wednesday morning CET)!
